Imodium is used to treat sudden short-lived (acute) attacks of diarrhoea in adults and children over 12 years old.  It works by making the stools more solid and less frequent.

Imodium can also be used to treat episodes of diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome after your doctor has diagnosed you are suffering from this condition.

Interaction Precautions :

Always inform your pharmacist if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant or are trying to become pregnant.  He/she will probably suggest you speak to your doctor first.

Do not use Imodium capsules :

In children under the age of 12 year

If your doctor has told you that you have a condition where slowing of the stomach or intestine should be avoided.

For example :  Constipation : Bloated Tummy : Inflammation of the bowel (e.g. any form of colitis)

Imodium should not be used on its own in acute dysentery, the symptoms of which may include blood in your stools and a high temperature

Patients aged under 12 years should not receive Imodium Capsules unless prescribed by a doctor

If in doubt about any of the above, ask your doctor or pharmacist

If you suffer from liver disease, tell your doctor before using Imodium.  You may need to be more closely supervised during treatment and the dosage may have to be altered.

Imodium only treats the symptoms of diarrhoea.  When you have diarrhoea, your body loses large amounts of fluid and salts.  You should therefore replace this lost fluid by taking more liquids than you normally would.

Your pharmacist may also recommend that you use a special powder containing sugar and salts (known as oral rehydration therapy) to help your body replace the fluid and salts lost during diarrhoea.

If your diarrhoea lasts for more than 24 hours, see your doctor

If you are taking Imodium to control episodes of diarrhoea associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome diagnosed by your doctor, you should return to him/her if the pattern of your symptoms changes.
Also, if your diarrhoea symptoms persist for more than two weeks, such that there is a need for continuous treatment during this time, then you should consult your doctor.

Always tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about taking any other medicines as you should not take any other antidiarrhoeal preparations whilst taking Imodium (except for oral rehydration therapy)

Occasionally Imodium may cause side effects such as tummy cramps, feeling sick, vomiting, tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth and skin reactions, including nettlerash

If your medicine affects you in any other way, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist

If you, or anyone else, take too much Imodium, contact your doctor or local hospital, without delay

International Orders

Allcures does ship overseas, but decisions are made on a per-order basis. The delivery charge will depend on the size and weight of the parcel.

Most orders will be sent by Royal Mail Air Mail ‘International Signed For’ post – a signature will be required on receipt. Alternatively, heavy parcels will be sent by DPD or Fedex within Europe, again a signature will be required on delivery.

Deliveries to the Republic of Ireland are classified as Air Mail by Royal Mail and DPD or Fedex and are subject to different tariffs. You will be contacted by Customer Services on Air Mail delivery charges.

We use several carrier companies, including Royal Mail, DPD and Fedex.

When ordering goods from Allcures for delivery overseas you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once the package reaches the specified destination. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, please note that when ordering from Allcures, you are considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods.

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact our Customer Services at or by telephone on +44(0)1708 859750 stating the items you wish to return, name and contact details, within 30 days. Return the goods to us in the exact condition in which they were delivered. Certain items cannot be refunded or exchanged unless faulty or sent incorrectly: for instance condoms, medicines or foods. We recommend using Recorded Delivery when returning products. Your statutory rights will not be affected. If we are in error we will refund the delivery charges.

When returning one or more products for a refund, you should note that if you have paid for all or part of that order with reward points these will be returned to your account first. The same applies to any credit used towards the purchase.

If returning products bought under the "3 For 2" or "2 For 1" offers, you will only be credited if the remainder of your order still fulfils the offer's rules. For example, say you purchased 4 items that were on "3 For 2" offer, and returned 1 of them, you would be credited for 1 item, but if you were to return 2 items, you would still only be credited for 1 item as you would have to pay normal price for the remaining 2 items in your order!
