Ovex single-tablet dose with Mebendazole for specifically treating threadworms.
There are tiny white parasitic worms that live in the bowel. They are approximately half an inch long and resemble threads of white cotton - hence the name 'Threadworms'.
For threadworms (sometimes known as pinworms) the dose is
One tablet per family member, therefore the family pack contains enough tablets to treat 4 family members.
Please Note
A single dose of Ovex will kill threadworms. In the case of re-infection, your pharmacist may recommend that a second tablet is taken after two weeks.
Ovex is a single-tablet dose. This is the same for adults and children aged two years and over. The tablets are orange-flavoured and may be chewed or swallowed whole. Since threadworms can be spread very easily, it is strongly recommended that all the family (except pregnant and breast-feeding women and children under 2) are treated at the same time, and that suitable hygiene precautions are followed to prevent re-infection.
Ovex is available as a single treatment pack or a family pack containing 4 tablets.
Drug Interaction Precautions
Ovex should not be taken by women who are, or think they may be pregnant, or when breast- feeding. Ask your doctor for advice. If you think you may have had an allergic reaction to Ovex or any of its ingredients in the past (for example, if you came out in a rash, itching, swollen lips or face), do not take it again without checking with your doctor).
Ovex should not be given to children younger than 2 years of age or used by breast-feeding women, without first asking your doctor. Always tell your pharmacist if you are taking any other medicine because some drugs should not be taken together. For example, if you are taking cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach acidity) you may need to see your doctor for advice.
Side-effects following the use of Ovex occur only in very rare instances and are minor, such as mild, short-lived stomach ache or diarrhoea, or allergic reactions (such as rashes, shortness of breath or itching). Do not hesitate to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any other side-effects.
Warning
If too much Ovex has been taken, either by yourself or a child, do not worry, but inform your doctor as soon as possible.
Keep all medicines out of reach of children. Always check the expiry date, after which any medicine that you have not taken should be returned to your pharmacist for safe destruction.
